Der Alt-Right-Komplex / The Alt-Right Complex

Die von Inke Arns (HMKV) kuratierte internationale Gruppenausstellung setzt sich mit Rechtspopulismen auseinander, die heute insbesondere das Internet und die „Sozialen Medien" zur Verbreitung nutzen. Dabei zeichnet Der Alt-Right-Komplex die Entwicklung von einer (Sub-)Kultur der Transgression in Online-Foren wie 4chan bis hin zu Plattformen wie z.B. Breitbart News nach. Die Künstler*innen beschäftigen sich mit Memes (z.B. Pepe der Frosch, dem wohl bekanntesten Symbol der Trump-Anhänger*innen), mit Figuren wie z.B. Steve Bannon, mit Flaggen Verehrung, der PrepperSzene, White Supremacists und Dark Enlightenment. Die Ausstellung wird von einem kritischen, mehr als 30 Einträge umfassenden Glossar begleitet, das die wichtigsten Begriffe kurz erklärt.

Der Alt-Right Komplex präsentiert zwölf Projekte von 16 Künstler*innen aus zwölf Ländern: aus Deutschland, Frankreich, Großbritannien, Kanada, Neuseeland, den Niederlanden, Österreich, Polen, Ungarn, Schweiz, Serbien und der Slowakei. In dieser Ausstellung sind unterschiedlichste künstlerische Medien zu sehen: Comics, Wandbilder, Videos, (Video-) Installationen, Poster zum Mitnehmen, Spielanleitungen, Netzkunst, Künstlerbücher, ein spekulatives Museum und eine Flaggenmaschine.

Curated by Inke Arns (HMKV), the international group exhibition deals with forms of right-wing populism, which, especially today, use the Internet and „social media" to disseminate ideas. The Alt-Right Complex traces the development from a (sub)culture of transgression in online forums such as 4chan to platforms such as Breitbart News. The artists deal with memes (e.g. Pepe the Frog, probably the most famous symbol of the Trump followers), with figures such as Steve Bannon, flag worship, the prepper scene, White Supremacists and Dark Enlightenment. The exhibition is accompanied by a critical glossary with more than 30 entries that briefly explains the most important terms.

The Alt-Right Complex presents twelve projects by 16 artists from twelve countries: Germany, France, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Switzerland, Serbia and Slovakia. A wide variety of artistic media can be seen in the exhibition: comics, wall paintings, videos, (video) installations, posters to take away, game instructions, net art, an artists' book, a speculative museum and a flag machine.
