Few cultural scenes embrace technological innovation and new creative possibilities as enthusiastically as electronic music. Today’s electronic musicians not only produce music digitally—they connect with audiences worldwide via platforms such as MySpace, run their own radio stations on Last.fm, release their music through online download stores, and exchange ideas via SoundCloud.

On 17 and 18 October, the new Audiodigitale festival in Dortmund is dedicated to these musicians, artists and scene activists whose creative practices move between experimentation and popular culture.

At the heart of the programme are two concert evenings at PHOENIX Halle Dortmund. Coinciding with the closing weekend of the HMKV's current media art exhibition, live acts, DJs and VJs will immerse audiences in atmospheric worlds of sound and image from 8:00 pm each evening. Video projections across four walls and a surround sound system will transform the venue into an exceptional audiovisual performance space.

Alongside local artists such as krill.minima, Digitalverein, Aestate and Jim Campbell, the line-up also features international acts including the young Argentinian ambient musician Ismael Pinkler and the enigmatic Seattle-based project The Sight Below. The visual programme will be created by, among others, the VJ collective Impulskontrolle and Cologne-based painter Nicolai Konstantinovic.

As part of the accompanying programme, the festival invites musicians, DJs and independent label operators to a series of workshops at domicil on Friday and Saturday from 2:00–5:00 pm. Topics include self-promotion for musicians, led by journalist and author Moritz Sauer (Phlow.net, Intro), while Björn Scheuermann, founder of Fassade Records, offers insights into the day-to-day realities of running an ambitious independent record label.
