1575 1 2011 Workshop Manga

Due to popular demand, the Hartware MedienKunstVerein’s manga workshop, held as part of the ‘Proto Anime Cut’ exhibition, is taking place for a second time for young people aged 12 and over. Featuring manga artist Karin Nagao from Berlin.

The word ‘mangaka’ is a combination of ‘manga’ (Japanese comic) and the suffix ‘-ka’ (creator) and is a term used to describe professional manga artists. Under the guidance of Berlin-based mangaka Karin Nagao, workshop participants will learn everything they need to know about the techniques of manga drawing, story creation and character development, as well as practising the critical analysis of the works they produce. Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to watch the anime *Ponyo*, which will be screened at 4 pm at the Kino im U as part of the Japan Media Arts Festival. A final presentation of the workshop’s results will also take place from 4 pm, to which family and friends are warmly invited.

The Osaka-born manga artist Karin Nagao has been living and working in Germany since 2003. In 2005, her work *Meer in Berlin* won the Japanese Embassy’s Special Prize at the DJG Berlin manga competition. Since 2008, she has led numerous manga workshops in Germany and has curated and organised music and dance events.
